13 Washroom Trends to look out for in 2020
Before you begin sprucing up your home, consider the spaces that you use the most. Yes, your bathroom is a functional spot, but that doesn’t mean it can’t make a statement with design. Here are the 13 current trends which you can follow to make your washroom a centre of attraction in your home.
It has been proven that we’re much more efficient, calmer and more focused if we are surrounded by nature. You can create a wall full of greenery, pick natural material tiles, opt for a standalone tub and oddly shaped sink to inspire nature’s natural shapes. In terms of colours for space, opt for soothing tones with some whites, greys and greens.
2. Goodbye Chrome
Black fixtures are back and better than ever! Shades of black are taking over sinks, toilets, and anything and everything in your bathroom this year versus the traditional shiny polished chrome which conveys a more relaxed, modern, and sleek feel.
3. Colours 2020
According to the Milan Design Show, on-trend colours for washrooms are champagne, light yellow and pumpkin red. Seeing as both yellow and orange are rather in-your-face colours in your bathroom, it’s vital to integrate them discreetly.
Back on-trend in 2019, terrazzo remains loved by designers. A mix of natural stones, cement, and marble, Terrazzo can now be found everywhere. For the bathroom, this material is most often found along shower walls and flooring, or even replace a ceramic sink. This Italian material is never dull with its unlimited colour and material combinations.
5. Open Showers
Open-concept Italian showers are entirely on-trend – especially those that are multi-functional and fully equipped with an integrated bench, misting system, ambient lighting, anti-fog mirror, linear drain, etc.
6. Console Style Vanities
2020 is all about console-like vanities as opposed to ample furnishing. It’s especially ideal for small spaces as it allows the room to look much more significant and not obstruct the area with a large looking vanity. Powder rooms benefit from this trend.
7. Long Skinny Tiles
The long skinny tile is another one of those trends that popped up at the end of last year but is moving full speed ahead into 2019. The long thin flooring is like the cool little sister to the classic subway tile.
8. Light up your Washroom
Lighting is incredibly important in your bathroom. Not only for aesthetic purposes but also for practicality. This year’s trend will be headed towards minimalist and pendant lighting, which allows other elements in the bathroom to shine brightly.
9. Asymmetric Mirrors
Asymmetrical Mirrors are here and better than ever before. Unique and geometric mirror shapes are the entire buzz, but that’s not all! Mirrors, just like the rest of the bathroom, are becoming smarter. Long gone are the days of plated mirrors.
10. Black is the New Grey
Grey may have been one of the most popular colours in 2018 and 2019 bathroom remodelling, but we’re moving on to more bold, darker styles this season. Darker tones, specifically black, are here. This trend is most prevalent in light fixtures, vanities, mirrors, and other fixtures- especially with matte finishes.
11. Marble all the Way
Walk-in-showers can feature a luxurious floor surface of large marble slab that acts to hide linear drainage lines beneath. A sandblasted for a non-slip surface, the full marble floor is a bespoke detail that feels so luxe beneath book-matched walls.
12. Statement Wallpapers
After years of being out, wallpaper is back in a big way. And while you might not want to commit to wallpaper in an ample space like your living room, the bathroom is the perfect place to experiment. Try a statement wallpaper in a powder room by opting for a bold, graphic print with plenty of contrast.
13. Wall-mounted Toilets
The floating toilet until recently they were only put in super modern homes. But times are changing’, and we predict them to be the toilet of 2019. There are far fewer nooks and crannies to collect dust and, ahem, other bathroom grossness in floating toilets.42
